Awnings are used worldwide to improve crop quality and create a comfortable environment for operators. A common use of awnings is to reduce direct light reaching crops.
For commercial growers, awnings are relatively inexpensive facilities. If the outdoor climate is suitable for production planting, the awning not only provides a cheap facility to expand the planting area, but also provides a good environment for the cultivation of seedlings before the crops are marketed. Obviously, the warmer the place, the longer the awning will last during the growing season. Foliage growers in Florida use awnings throughout the year for production, and use 4mil (1mil=0.0254mm) plastic film to anticipate short frosts and freezes in winter.
For retail events, awnings provide a comfortable environment for customers to shop at leisure. Most clients will feel comfortable regardless of the outside temperature if they can avoid direct sunlight. If combined with other equipment, such as artificial waterfalls, circulating fans, evaporative cooling equipment, etc., the environment of the awning will be more attractive. In addition to the benefits of shading, awnings can also act as wind barriers for specific areas. Shading screens can be installed on the sides or ends of the awning to prevent wind damage to plants.
